Forest Park Golf Course first opened for play in 1910. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow. John Van Kleek (1934) and Lindsay Ervin (1986) have done redesigns on this course.
Forest Park Golf Course is a hilly course. The course is situated in the midst of a densely residential neighborhood in Queens. The layout is rather short with tree-lined fairways and small, asymmetrical greens. There are three water holes. #9, offers a great view of Lower Manhattan.
Forest Park Golf Course made the news during President Clinton's spring 1997 visit to New York to celebrate the anniversary of Jackie Robinson's breaking the baseball color barrier. A golfer was caught chipping balls at the presidential motorcade as it passed by the course. The consensus among those familiar with the perp's game said it was not a legitimate threat.
